Wyllie IainIain Wyllie początkowo specjalizował się w malarstwie jednostek pływających i dużym zainteresowaniem dażył żaglowce, pierwszymi tematami Iaina były słynne klipry i piękne pejzaże morskie.

Jego pierwsze próby malowania samolotów były wykonywane na potrzeby konkursów malarskich, kiedy był członkiem Królewskiego Korpusu Obserwatorów. W swojej kolekcji wciąż ma obraz Gloster Javelin, który wygrał pierwszy z wielu konkursów jeszcze w latach 60-tych. W latach siedemdziesiątych Iain udoskonalił sztukę malowania aerografem iw rezultacie stawał się coraz bardziej rozpoznawalny jako jeden z najlepszych artystów w Wielkiej Brytanii, co ostatecznie doprowadziło Iaina do zostania pełnoetatowym artystą aerografu lotniczego, produkującym ponad 80 okładek do serii książek wydawnictwa Osprey. Malował również dla wydawnictwa Kestrel Publishing. Wszystkie jego prace są synonimem niesamowitego realizmu i technicznej dokładności.
